Thank you for purchasing SPROG II or SPROG3, The DCC Decoder Programmer.
Please take the time to read through these instructions fully before attempting
to install or use your SPROG.
The following steps are required to install your SPROG before you can use it for the first time:
- Install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (not required on Mac)
- Install DecoderPro
- Connect the Power Supply
- Install SPROG II or SPROG3 USB drivers
- Edit DecoderPro preferences
- Connect the Programming Track
These instructions refer mainly to the Windows or MacOS operating system but the same
basic principles apply to Linux.

Before you begin you will need:
- A SPROG II or SPROG3 and appropriate cable (typically USB cable supplied)
- A 12-15V regulated DC power supply (as supplied, 12V 1.25A or 14V 3A)
- Java Runtime software (included on this disc)
- JMRI software (included on this disc)
- USB drivers (included on this disc)
Note: To read some of the installation instructions, you will require Adobe
Acrobat Reader to be installed on your system. Most computers have this or an equivalent Reader,
but if you do not already have Acrobat Reader installed, it may be installed from here:
Before you can use your SPROG for the first time you need to install
a number of software components. SPROG software
requires the Java runtime environment (JRE) and JMRI, which includes DecoderPro.
In addition, the USB SPROG device requires specific USB drivers to be installed.
